Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) This is one of the rare occasions that I purchase a full discography, occuring only if I'm 100% determined beforehand that I'm going to buy all of those albums anyway sooner or later. So it was sooner, with a nice 25% discount. This is the earliest release of Louis de Mieulle's current triplet of albums (alas, "Stars, Plants & Bugs" isn't available on Bandcamp), and it sounds a bit different from the other two, because the compositions aren't so extensively centered around drum grooves. In a nutshell, it's a kind of instrumental fusion music that I absolutely love, with lots of odd rhythm patterns, weird and unexpected chord progressions, and clever improvisations. Favorite track: Scapegoat 2.

about

First solo album by french composer/bassist Louis de Mieulle. A unique mix of vintage electric jazz, twisted polyrhythms, and experimental song structures.

"Is there such a thing as “math-jazz”? I’ve no idea, but it will have you tapping your toe and scratching your head at one and the same time. (...) An engaging and sometimes challenging, but always entertaining listen"
(Roger Trenwith - DPRP)

"Strangely hypnotic and trance-like"
(Jon Neudorf - Sea of Tranquility)
